The friend that first forced me to watch Star Wars (in my twenties) totally acknowledged how ridiculous and campy it is, that it was part of its charm. I respected him for that. As a Trekkie, we had a truce. I’d totally acknowledge Star Trek’s flaws and he’d acknowledge Star Wars’ flaws. So I’m a little confused by people who think it’s some cinematic masterpiece. Well-shot, absolutely. Entertaining at times. But frankly, I just don’t like any of the characters.

You got the chosen one, who is a whiny idiot. The wizard who refused to train the chosen one, then killed himself instead of training him personally. A giant hairy thing which makes annoying high-pitched noises. A misogynist asshole. An annoying gay robot. The deus ex machina robot. A puppet in a swamp. A weirdo in a black robe. Another old weirdo who probably has ED. Oh, and the plot is for good to destroy evil.

The prequels had more plot holes than swiss cheese and some even stranger characters, but at least they entertained me more. And had Ewan.
