“How it should be” is a trap laid to stop you from doing anything. The tools you have before you, as they are, what good can you reasonably do with them now? What little improvements can you make here in the “is” and hope they gain momentum down the road?

Just because it’s wrong doesn’t mean it isn’t real. Work with what’s there. Working with what isn’t there is idle wishing at best, self-sabotage more often.

The amount of “if people won’t magically decide to support Grandpa Condescension like me and my five friends too, maybe democracy should end and a violent revolution should occur!” on the internet today is sad and hideous.

The big check never comes. Krusty never goes to camp to smite our enemies. Do the good you can, where you can, don’t put the house in hock for one longshot. Change the world grain by grain of sand, though, and the change may even last.

The poor suckers at Masada no doubt believed themselves a vanguard but the Romans slaughtered them like the passionate exception they were. Believing yourself part of a growing vanguard without verifiable proof helps no one.

Whenever I consider judging someone else’s style choices I remember that my “look” is Jcpenney big and tall catalog 2003.
