  1. Everyone thinks they are the exception, their family is the exception, their social group is their exception, their generation is the exception. One of the maddening things about how short a human life is, we so often ignore that we are adrift in cycles beyond us.

  2. Sherlock Holmes was a real one hint wonder.

  3. It’s easier to accept things you can’t change when they’re personal. As a nation barrels toward disaster & no one wants rational solutions, it can drive you mad. How do you “let go” as a train speeds toward you & everyone you love? The serenity prayer seems ill equipped for 2020.

  4. Middle America’s more afraid of a socialist than a fascist. It’s not right it’s not fair but it’s true a truth we ignore at the republic’s peril. We’re on average very light blue but the middle & south are blood red. Santy Claus ain’t coming but if we wise up, sanity still might.

  5. The very finest of the seers know no magic, cast no withers, augur no guts, roll no bones. They simply note the cycles of history and when they see an unlearned from mistake repeated say “it will happen again”.

  6. A nation in shambles, a nation in need, a nation requiring “harm reduction” as its final holy creed. Long past a time for grandstanding messiahs, time for the desperate work of putting out a million fires.

  7. Rome didn’t fall in a day, either, it fell road by road, bridge by bridge, town by town, some places didn’t know for generations the store was no longer being tended. Istanbul was Constantinople but no longer is, that’s what it’s like, slow apocalypse.

  8. There are things failure can teach you that 1000 years of success never could but that is one our great bald ape flaws: we only listen to success stories.
