On Headlines. in The Napkin.

Damn it, can’t decide which is worse: the comment section or the propensity for like-minded individuals to become more extreme in groups. Which defeats my original purpose, which was to propose that neither matters, as we all still react the headlines much like people did 100 years ago, with a minority actually opening a newspaper to read the article and then critically evaluate the information within.

Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Staying informed is hard. I guess the difference now is that there’s a venue for people with their more extreme opinions to dominate a conversation that never would have even occurred 100 years ago. 100 years ago, you’d chat with your friends. Now, people dedicate their evenings to find people across the world that agree or disagree with them.

I thought I had a point, but I lost it. Man, I’m so glad I’m less knee-jerk than I was thirteen years ago.
