The Idea. in The Napkin.

There’s a post going around tumblr about a guy elected president. He doesn’t really want to be there, so he tries to fuck up horribly. And every single “bad” decision ends up turning out immensely good.

So, I’m watching the Wonder Years, and thinking about how too many of my NaNoNovels have been, well, centered around the teen years. I had a thought of “I could probably do it from the perspective of a teacher.”

Cue inspiration.

Guy’s working at a job that’s not exactly his dream but tolerable. He as a degree he has no desire to use. Gets a second job as a substitute teacher. Doesn’t give a shit. Kids love him. Gets pushed into a job as a permanent replacement. Doesn’t give a shit. Administration praises him for unorthodox teaching. Somehow he ends up vice principal. Actually talks to kids like people when they fuck up. Gets praised by community. It could go all the way to the presidency. Though, it doesn’t need to be, to be comically effective.

I can’t write outside myself. This, however, I can place myself in. I always have comedy, tinged with seriousness when you least expect it.

I like this idea. I like this a lot.
