My favourite line in any Christmas carol ever was always “God and sinner reconciled”… like… it’s one of the few songs that admits it’s not just the people that gotta give in, God’s gotta humble up and meet us halfway too if it’s ever gonna work. I love that idea.

If nothing else, this life will have to teach you that you don’t get what you want and to be what you want at the same time, not both, not never. Most of us will never get either, of course, but at best you get one of ‘em. Choose damned wisely which.

A simpler sort of epitaph for a time than Gravity’s Rainbow was. A splash of brilliant color in an accidental spill of the blood that fuels us & burns us away, puddled up on the ground, in a pothole, weirdly beautiful despite the doom & the waste. A gasoline rainbow, if you will.
