Last Day of 2019 in In the Meadow

We had a nice Christmas. We had a ham for dinner on Christmas Eve. There were sweet potatoes, broccoli, brussel sprouts, and dinner rolls (my favorite part.) The mashed potatoes didn’t turn out. I realized that I had not made mashed potatoes in a few years, and this was when I had an electric stove. Now that I have a gas stove, I didn’t consider that the potatoes needed to boil for longer. So the potatoes weren’t ready in time for dinner. We had a lot of other food though, so all was good. We didn’t go to Christmas Eve mass this year. I did watch Christmas Eve Mass from the Vatican.

In the morning we opened presents. The kids want mostly cash and gift cards at this age, but they do like something to open on Christmas morning. We went to my husband’s parents for Christmas dinner. It was nice to see everyone. We ordered food from a takeout place, so we just warmed it up.

My dad and brother visited right before Christmas. We had a nice time. My dad likes to go to Costco and Home Depot. He did some repairs around our place. My brother stayed with us for the past week and went back home this weekend. We went to some museums and book stores. He is mildly autistic. He loves brussel sprouts. We had the brussel sprouts at dinner mostly for him.

The kids have been on school vacation for the past week and a half. They go back to school on Thursday. My husband and I are going out for New Years’ Eve. We are going to a bar and grill that is having a New Years’ Eve party. I haven’t been out for New Years’ Eve in years. I guess now that I am about to have adult children, I need a more exciting life. Ha ha.

So we are about to start a new year and a new decade. Ten years ago the twins were in second grade. Aaron was in preschool. A lot has happened in that time. I have been in my present job about two and a half years. We lost my mom in 2016. I was feeling kind of sad about that today. I miss her. The twins are seniors in high school and Aaron is in ninth grade.

A lot will happen in 2020. Timmy and Kayla will turn eighteen and graduate from high school. They will be starting college. Aaron will turn fifteen and start tenth grade.

I don’t really have any New Years Resolutions. Just to generally take care of myself. I am turning forty-five and need to start to taking steps to, shall we say, preserve myself physically and mentally.
