Someone just rang up and asked for David. I told them they must have the wrong number. They said I want David A........ and I realised they actually did want my husband. His name is David John but he has always used John since he left home. He felt it suited his personality better. When we visited his family they still called him David but to all of our friends and neighbours he is John.

Just to confuse things more I call him Ted. That started as a jokey name when we first married. He had this big fluffy coat and I said he was my blue Teddy bear. I started called him Ted and it stuck.

It got quite confusing when his mother came over for Christmas with her calling him David, my mum calling him John and me calling him Ted.

Well, recently he joined a local art group. He has always painted and he mentioned it to a neighbour who told him about this new group meeting in the village. He decided that David sounded more arty that John. Recently in the village shop a neighbour came in and said, 'Hello John.' and the woman next to him in the queue said, 'I thought you were David.' so he had to explain again. Then as we left I remembered something else I needed and called out to him, Just a minute Ted.' and the look on their faces was hilarious.
