Stone in Love in General

Thanksgiving went off without a hitch. I completely nailed the garlic mashed potatoes which were a big hit. I peeled the potatoes the night before and let them soak overnight. I think that leached out some of the starch, so when I put them together they didn’t end up all weird and gummy. Five pounds of Maine potatoes. Two heads of roasted garlic, 8oz of cream cheese, a little heavy cream, a handful of shredded parmesan. Five minutes in the stand mixer. Transferred to the crock pot to keep them warm. The raves were embarrassing.

We had the standard fixings. Turkey, stuffing, dinner rolls, celery with cheese, carrots and onions, peas, cranberry sauce, gravy. Oh. And Garlic Mashed Potatoes.
Desert was…too much. I think I ate myself ill, and I really didn’t eat that much. Just stuff I haven’t had in a very long time so my body was kicking back a bit.

I dropped the Bean off at her home. I did not drive past Audrey’s house. Arrived home and finished cleaning up the kitchen. Binge watch the first season of Burn Notice.
Determined that I would not leave the house on Black Friday I finally ventured out to do some of my first of the month grocery shopping. It wasn’t bad, plus I can sneak in and out through the back roads, so I avoided the idiots.

Last night I decided to finally hang my Les Paul up. On the wall. I haven’t really picked it up since I destroyed my left hand some ten years ago. I figured I have a very expensive guitar, 1957 Gibson Les Paul, and very pretty. If I can’t play it, it can fill in as a decoration. It is a very pretty guitar.

I charged the wireless gizmos and plugged the one into the guitar, and the one into the amp. Broke out the tuner, tuned to drop d. Rewired the wireless through the effects box and turned it on.

Sat down and said “okay left hand, let’s see what you can do.” Looks like the last time I had used the effects box I had it set at setting G7, which is full distortion, full chorus, full sustain.
I fretted a G. My jaw dropped. It was the first chord of Stone in Love. I dicked around for a few more minutes. I still can’t feel my left fingertips, so I have to watch my hand while changing chords. It sounds wonderful.

I remember hearing that opening chord to Stone in Love the first time. I still have ESC4P3 on vinyl. Back then I wondered who she was. Now I think I know.

Burning love comes once in a lifetime
Oh, the memories never fade away
Golden girl, I’ll keep you forever…
