Garlic mashed locked and loaded. Checked in with Mireya’s house, and she is indeed up and will be ready for pickup for the trip up to ‘Salem’s Lot. Talked to Mom, and the guests are bringing a ton of deserts. I suppose it is a good thing that keto can wait until Monday, because apple crisp and cherry cobbler are decidedly not keto.
I don’t know what was going on with me last night. The rain was dumping out of the sky, and it was almost like I was looking for a reason to be sad.
For supper I had steamed mussels in a butter sauce. Good, but not as good as the mussels from Penn cove in Washington. I served myself in the single steel bowl I have in the cupboard.
That is a leftover from X1s exodus. She left me one steel bowl and three sets of chopsticks when she moved.
That set me on a meander. Detritus of failed relationships. I have a garlic roaster and Mowgli book that belonged to X2s mother. I lost a jewelry box (because God knows, every man needs a jewelry box) I had since childhood to my first divorce. X2 gave me a beautiful replacement. And yes, the silver dolphin still resides there.
I have a Valentine’s day card from Audrey on the side of my refrigerator. On the side because putting in on the front would just be pathetic. On the side because it is an occasional reminder that someone actually loved me in a romantic way.
I have never doubted that my family loves me. But once that is taken as a given, you are always searching for the love. That other love.
After eight years down the road I still wake up a bit and roll over and reach for her. Even though we only slept together for a few months, after knowing each other for years.
Like I said, it is almost like I am trying to find a way to be sad. And that is way too easy this time of year in this part of the world.
Time to find a sunlamp on Amazon prime!
As I age, I am noticing how fucking noisy the world is. Even when I turn off the TV, and turn off the music. There is still this electric hum of appliances, and in this time of year that means humidifiers.
Well, off to the shower. Gotta pick up my girl and make my way inland. Wish me luck in not driving past Audrey’s house after dropping off the bean tonight.
