What’s your favorite true story to tell? by Dark As Day, Bright As Night
Oh jeez. I have a lot of stories that I like to tell. I don’t think I can pick just one. Hmm
Let’s pick how I got into Witchcraft/paganism.
Ok. I was brought up Catholic. I went to CCD (Sunday School) and church every Sunday.
I hated it. I couldn’t wrap my 8 year old head that I should feel guilty about things all the time. That I was born with sin. I felt it was so very wrong to make anyone think and feel that way.
So, I started skipping CCD and church. I would take the collection money and go across the street from the church to the ice cream parlor and get an ice cream.
My parents eventually caught on to this when I kept saying “I did my homework while I was waiting for mass to start” Yeah. Lol there wasn’t enough time in between class and church for me to get it done lol
My mum called my uncle (great-uncle, actually) who was a Catholic priest and told him about the “problem”.
He got on the phone with me, and I told him why I didn’t agree with what I was being taught. He asked, “well, what do you believe in?” I answered “the trees!” He laughed and said “well you have always talked to trees, so of course that makes sense”
He got in touch with my grandma Alice and asked her to introduce me to Laurie Cabot, who was a regular at the restaurant she worked at.
I don’t remember much about meeting her, actually. I do remember her staring at me. I mean really staring at me, and giving me a deck of beginner tarot cards (they had the general meaning of the card printed right on them).
And that’s how I began learning about who I am, what I truly believe in. I’m very thankful that my family was so open minded to it. A lot of people would have freaked out, y’know?
