Three entries in one day? Not a record.
Well, I might have legal representation from my countries biggest law firm. They have a renown labour and employment team and I was given the contact information to one of their best lawyers. My company was not unionized so we’re pretty confident that I have a case. I don’t want to sound like an American but I forgot to vote today and also, I’m going to sue my old company for emotional damages. Also, while I’m sounding American what the frig is a honky tonk?
Leanne works at this law firm, but in immigrations, and she also keeps saying that I should apply to be an assistant there but I digress. I was drafting up a letter that I was going to send to the company that I worked for when I felt compelled to look into Gretchen Carlson’s story. That draft was posted earlier today but for privileged eyes only. Anyway, I feel inspired and empowered enough to do something about these injustices and indignities that I and others faced while I worked for that company. Gretchen explained that these predatory behaviours happen because there are not enough women in workplaces and I realized how right that statement was. I stood up to voice sexual harassment claims on behalf of a woman and they all protected the serial predator and discounted all of the claims. Had there been at least one woman involved in my situation this outcome could have been better. I feel that taking a stand might help create a cultural shift for men & women, in a very small way, who work in this industry to have a safer work environment. I am targeting the system that failed me, not so much the individuals. Should the system turn on the individual’s and serve up some sweet karma then that is just icing off a ducks back rolls or whatever the term is from RuPaul’s Drag Race.
Companies usually hire an arbitrator which is how these scandals rarely get heard. I’ll be offered a settlement, maybe, but then I will not be allowed to talk about this with anyone. Ever. They can spin this story any which way that they want to and I will not be allowed to respond. No judge, no jury and no appeals. Just me, a check and an NDA. I’ll feel like a powerless sellout.
I love the work that Gretchen is doing with creating organizations and workshops that empower women to speak out and to create workshops for businesses and schools in sensitivity training and stuff like that. I wonder if there is anything like that in my country? I would love to apply and be a part of that process. I have bad social anxiety but public speaking doesn’t bother me if I know what I’m saying.
Anyways, I’ll get a free consultation with that lawyer or his team and if they are able to help I might go ahead with this and if they can’t help me then they will at least be able to forward me to someone who can. My concern is that what if this firm represents my company?… I don’t want to think about that right now.
