It’s been a road.... an unpaved, country, MI, back road but I didn’t get into any accidents so I guess I’m good. Before I begin this entry I’d like to go over the foods I’m not allowed to eat now… most of them I already had to keep an eye on for sodium. So I’m going to put a * next to the ones I already reduced/cut/watch closely. I feel like a list will help with understanding how my weekend went, oddly enough.
Foods to Avoid
Chocolate
Cocoa

Alcohol
Artificial sweeteners (don’t use anyway)
Aged, canned, cured or processed meats

herring
chicken liver
bologna
fermented sausage
(who eats fermented?)
food prepared with tenderizer
soy sauce

brewers yeast (I don’t like beer and wouldn’t that fall under alcohol anyways?)
food containing nitrates and tyramine (tend to be smoked meats)
Buttermilk (don’t use)
sour cream (15mg sodium and I still can’t have it :(, great)
chocolate milk (duh chocolate)
then like every aged cheese ever (Stilton, Blue, Mozzarella, Roquefort, provolone, Gruyere, Muenster, feta, Parmesan, emmenthal, Brie, Camembert, Gouda and Romano
Beans (ple, broad, lima, italian, fava, navy, pinto, garbanzo. (no Chile for me this fall, great))
snow peas, pea pods (or stir fry)
sauerkraut (like it but won’t miss it)
onions!!!!
olives :(

pickles :(
canned soup

soup
bullion cubes

soup base with yeast or MSG
any products containing chocolate

Pizza
Cheese sauce

meat tenderizer
yeast
yeast extract
mixed dishes (like boxed dinners)

frozen meal
nuts (including peanut butter)*
all non white vinegars
anything fermented, pickled or marinated.....

Most of these things like peanut butter and frozen meals.... I had found a few (or one) that was low in sodium and had made the transition easily. Making my own pickles and such.... but now even those… then there is a list of foods allowed… some of which I already can’t have due to sodium. * next to things I can’t have anyways.

Foods Allowed
Decaffeinated coffee (gross but already too much caffeine) :(
fruit juice
club soda (gross)
non-cola soda limit caffeine to 2 cups per day (coffee, tea, cola)

Fresh/frozen Turkey
chicken
fish
beef
lamb
veal
pork
Limit 3 eggs per week
tuna
milk
American cheese
cottage cheese

ricotta
cream cheese
processed cheese slices

yogurt
potato
sweet potato
rice
macaroni
spaghetti
Limit citrus fruits to 1/2 cup per day
All other fruits and veggies not listed are fine
cream soups made from stuff in okay list
homemade broths
cakes, cookies, pudding or ice cream without nuts, chocolate, or yeast. Flavored gelatin
Sugar
jelly
jam
honey
hard candy
salt in moderation
lemon juice
butter/margarine

cooking oils
whipped cream
white vinegar
commercial salad dressings*

through all of this the sodium hardly matters as much because I won’t get vertigo anyways.... but it’s also nice to not have a roaring tinnitus and the feeling of half my head being heavier and full of something. I’m just going to leave this here and start another entry for how the weekend went. First weekend back to work in 9 months!
