not so much a prodigal son
as a never-was prodigy
and yet here I am
demanding third chances
reconsider me

when you check that resume
when you smell the laurel trees
when you take the J-line west
reconsider me

when you're on the interstate
when you're awake far too late
when you stop holding out for fate
reconsider me

when you're fucked up on hard cider
singing along to "midnight rider"
you're lonely
but don't need a provider
reconsider me
