The Weird Al Concert was awesome.
My illness has progressed to the point where after court today I am likely to go home.
But that still doesn’t spare me the “before you sit down” morning items… like Domestic Violence Abusers violating No Contact Orders; and Adult Children beating the hell out of their parents. So… good job, humanity. Always great at making sure I understand as much as we pretend to have evolved… most of us are still scrapping by as barely above Prehistoric Humans.
The Democratic Debates last night left me with three strong impressions.
(1) John Delaney is most DEFINITELY running as the candidate of “But won’t somebody work to protect the super rich?!”
(2) Warren and Sanders were seen almost exclusively as the only “viable” candidates of the evening.
(3) My candidate wasn’t present last night; but I am very worried about her chances and what that means for our country. I honestly think Sanders and Warren are all but incapable of driving voter turn out or pulling independents. They’re Progressive, Liberal, Far-Left Wonks on a lot of things… something that this country has a long, passionate history of avoiding. I think, despite how Liberal Progressives love her… I think Elizabeth Warren cannot beat Donald Trump. But, those in the know, may ask What in the world makes you think Kamala Harris can?! I’ll refer you to an important part of the BBC description on the Senator.
“Kamala Harris is the kind of Democrat who could stick around and prevail in what is sure to be a gruelling nomination battle.
She is from California, which is rich in both primary delegates and fundraising dollars. As a woman, and from an ethnic minority, she is well positioned to capitalise on her party’s growing diversity.
She has one of the most liberal voting records in the US Senate at a time when Democrats are leaning to the left, but she also has a background as a hard-nosed prosecutor.
That background may end up a vulnerability as well, given that some progressives have criticised her for failing to support California criminal justice reform efforts and pointed to her prosecutorial record as being insufficiently sensitive to the rights of the accused.
Anthony’s take:
She will be tested in the coming months, but looks and sounds like the kind of fresh-faced candidate that will appeal to a wide range of Democratic constituencies. If she can post decent showings in the early states of Iowa and New Hampshire, she’ll be well-positioned to emerge from the pack when the primary voting moves south and west.”
She initially succeeded in a branch of government often dominated by Conservative Men. I know because it is the branch of government I went to Law School to serve in. She was able to hold her own and be quite successful. IF she can lean on her voting record to get the liberals and take the punches over her prosecutor history to bring in moderates and independents; I think she’s got a chance. As previously stated, she’s certainly my candidate. But we’ll see what happens tonight.
Current polls place the top 4 as
Biden
Sanders
Warren
Harris
Which… is somewhat upsetting, but I suppose understandable. Biden is seen as “rich, white old guy” which is apparently the absolute best for America for some stupid fucking reason. Biden is also seen as a direct “spiritual” connection to Obama so… despite in no way BEING Obama, some support him based on that relationship alone. But if Biden’s long history in government, penchant for stupid comments, and personality still matter; he may not get the nom. So then… Sanders? A long-time Far Lefty that actually served as a member of the Socialist Party?! Do you want to know the easiest way to give good Americans a reason to vote for Trump despite Trump’s bullshit? Nominate an open and proud Socialist! I know, I know. Republicans are going to call Democrats socialists no matter WHAT, this is obvious. But I don’t think that means we lean into it. I think that means we continue to say, “Bullshit. If you don’t know what you’re talking about, you should stay silent!” As opposed to throwing up our hands, shrugging our shoulders, and saying “Well, okay. I guess if you’re going to call us Socialists, we’ll be Socialists.” Not to mention that Sanders, too, is seen as “rich, white old guy” thus apparently the absolute best for America bullshit. Only 16% of the American population is over 65 years old. And, despite the Trump Base White Panic… Whites still make up 60% of the population. As to wealth? The median Household income is $57,652. Per capita, of course, is closer to $30k. Well… Joe Biden’s Tax Returns Show More Than $15 Million in Income After 2016. As for Bernie? Sanders has amassed an estimated $2.5 million fortune from real estate, investments, government pensions—and earnings from three books, including the 2016 hit Our Revolution: A Future to Believe In. “I wrote a best-selling book. If you write a best-selling book, you can be a millionaire, too,” he recently told the New York Times, striking a downright Trumpian note..
But that brings us to Warren who, unfortunately, has the notoriety on both sides. For some Democrats, she’s “Yet she persisted.” For some Republicans, she’s “Redistribution of Wealth.” For Trumpists, she’s “Pocahontas.” Warren will act as a lightning rod for voter turnout on both sides of the aisle. As voter turnout is the only way to win in 2020… that cuts both ways. Her nomination would certainly stir the Trumpists, Alt-Right, Conservatives and even the Moderate Republicans against her. Could she inspire enough Never Trumpers, Social Democrats, Progressives, Liberals and Centrists? That’s the question.
I realize my Candidate would have similar issues. Leftists will criticize her for being a prosecutor. Conservatives will criticize her voting record. BUT I genuinely believe that (at least at present) Harris is a voter turnout individual that doesn’t cut both ways. I don’t think she’s yet seen as “hostile to America” as Warren is. SO I don’t think the Right would lose their shit with as much vigor. But a young mixed-race daughter of immigrants??? That has Democrat Voter Turnout written all over it. Just my two cents.
