starring George Clooney, Matt Damon, and MANY more

This is a story based on the truth. There's a note at the end of the movie stating that they played fast and loose with what actually happened (not quite in those words).

During WWII, the Nazis raided the private art collections... and public ones... of the countries they overran. First it was just the collections of the Jews, then just about everyone. Hitler wanted to create a HUGE museum of the art of western civilization of the past 3000 years or so. (Not modern art - Picassos were just burned.)

The US sent a group of artists and art scholars to Europe as a small semi-military group to save the art work. It was a group of military misfits, but they learned to work together and saved MILLIONS of pieces of priceless art.

Although I had heard this movie did not get great reviews it was a subject i wanted to know more about. (And still want to know more. The movie was based on a book... now I have to locate THAT book.) It was not "thrilling" - and so much seemed to come way too easily for them.
