I found it! I searched the notepad version of my Open Diary that I took and found my massively out of date list in there. The deadline is actually TODAY so I'll have to tidy it up and start again but I'm glad I have the basis. The list as it stands is below; incomplete at only 95 challenges and some of them haven't been updated in ages (see 75 films at the cinema, read 50 books plus others; the number is much higher now; I'll have to start these again)

If anyone wants to have a look at my list and see what sort of things I have on there, any suggestions for things you think I might enjoy are most welcome :o)

The Mission: Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.

The Criteria: Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on my part).

Why 1001 Days? Many people have created lists in the past - frequently simple goals such as New Year's resolutions. The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organising and timing some tasks such as overseas trips or outdoor activities.

Some common goal setting tips: 1. Be decisive. Know exactly what you want, why you want it, and how you plan to achieve it. 2. Stay Focussed. Any goal requires sustained focus from beginning to end. Constantly evaluate your progress. 3. Welcome Failure. Frequently, very little is learned from a venture that did not experience failure in some form. Failure presents the opportunity to learn and makes the success more worthy. 4. Write down your goals. It clarifies your thinking and reinforces your commitment. 5. Keep your goals in sight. Review them frequently, and ensure that they are always at the forefront of your thinking.</center>

So I epically failed on my first attempt at this, having only completing 42 challenges, but I did actually enjoy it and ended up doing a lot of stuff I enjoyed and felt was worthwhile, things which I probably would have put off doing if I didn’t my 101 thing challenge to work towards. So I’m doing another list! I’ve learnt a couple of things from my first attempt.

Firstly, I was putting too much pressure on myself; either financially, timewise or otherwise. For example, there were too many travelling items in there. Visit a new country, visit a new US state and visit South Africa again. There’s no way I could do all that in the space of 1001 days. One of them maybe, but definitely not all of them. So, although I will still be challenging myself, I won’t be putting quite so much pressure on myself this time around.

Secondly, I’ve learnt that I can’t have challenges that rely on other people. For example, quite a few of my original challenges involved Pete, and we all know how that turned out. So I had to cut these out of the list and never got around to replacing them. Also, things that rely on other people’s decisions such as getting a new job, having a letter published in a magazine, appear on TV etc. I can try as hard as I like, but I still need other people to decide to let these things happen, and with all the will in the world I can’t influence other people’s decisions! So I need challenges that rely on me and me alone.

Some challenges I failed at last time, and I’m going to put some of them in here again and have another bash at them.
