Gnarly Old Trees and Me in Everyday Ramblings

The gnarly old locust trees along the big street near here are just past their prime blooming time and the rainsqualls this afternoon brought a lot of the blossoms down.

It seems like we are barreling into summer full speed ahead.

The last two days at work have been remarkably quiet and so I was able to start my course on Yoga Nidra and hook up with teachers from all over the place taking the online program.

I feel more relaxed than I have in a number of weeks and am looking forward to the long weekend. With Mrs. Sherlock off on her adventure I am planning on a trip to the Farmer’s Market in the morning (if it isn’t too wet) and grocery shopping and food prep.

Sunday I am going down to see Kes and Most Honorable for lunch, which will take most of the day, and Monday I am going to chill, maybe go birding or for a long walk or inflate the tires of my long neglected bike and go for a ride.

I am planning on buying a full sized iPad to replace my 9-year-old MacBook Pro. First I need to figure out how to store all my photos in the cloud.

If I keep my job, or have another job for the next year, the plan is to buy a new bed in about six months. All this along with growing out my pixie haircut (don’t even get me started on bad hair days), are part of the planning I am doing for retirement.

Yesterday morning I had a mammogram and won’t need to do that for a while. I had it at our brand new facility…the building just opened last month. The mammogram center is nice, each machine has it’s own dressing room and the door locks so it is just you and the tech and no wandering around half dressed. It is also has no pink, a feature I appreciate. It did all smell new though.

I will be seeing the cardiologist in a week and a half.

And the dreaded colonoscopy is scheduled for mid September. Right on the referral to the specialist my doctor’s office had my BMI (Body Mass Index) and I am like…really? I guess it helps them prepare but…ughh.

I am rooting for a medically free long happy summer full of lots of outdoors activities, deep learning, (the manual for the course is 210 pages long), and excellent family, friend and student time.

Two of my favorite students, who stopped coming when I moved the classes to the studio, have come back and this week they paid for a series of classes, which means they are making a commitment. This makes me so happy as they are fun to work with. I have four separate couples that come together. We didn’t learn about teaching couples in teacher training. :)

Now that I think of it, I can only think of one couple that used to come to classes I regularly attended.

I am losing students though because they move away or the class time becomes problematic, or there are transportation issues and I need to think about marketing the classes a bit more. It would be useful to clear some space for that in all the other things I am doing and make it a priority. This is definitely on my “Things I Don’t Want To Do” list.

I had the last in the introductory series of appointments for my hearing aids this week as well and I have finally learned how to get them both in my ears properly most of the time. The world is so much richer and brighter and I am extremely grateful I was able to get them.

It is interesting that I am not in the least bit ashamed or embarrassed by wearing them and enjoy the enhanced connection to others I have. I still often can’t hear what my students are saying, particularly at the end of class when they are relaxed and are speaking to each other but my audiologist told me that would be the case.

I look forward to learning the parameters of what I can and can’t hear and figuring out how to work within those limits as I teach. The whole relationship with my voice has changed since I got them.

I am going to fully enjoy my retirement, I can tell.
