Our odd weather continues, the storms are passed and now it is very mild for February, I did some work outside yesterday with just a fleece jacket against these welcome late February days. This last Sunday of the month is both windy and mild, the wind-chill is minimal when I was out with Ziggy, we lingered out on the lawn, the little clump of Snowdrops are now fully open, the Camellias have a wonderful display of white flowers and our first Daffodils are opening. They are a miniature Daffodil and always flower before there larger brethren, around Cornwall there have been Daffodils in flower since mid January; I think our situation here in the shadow of the eastern side of the valley keeps our daffodils back until the light reaches our garden.
With the improved weather we expected the Agility classes to run, but we had a text to say it couldn’t go ahead due to the strong wind, it seems here in the valley we are not sheltered from just light; southern and south west wind passes over us! So I continued with my outside jobs, yesterday I adjusted our ‘A’ frame so it wasn’t so steep, I made a pair of longer side arms, I’ve also made eight extra treads for the ‘A’ frame; the treads are a little to wide apart for a certain Dog with shorter legs.
And there was the gate to the steps up to the meadow, I made it four years but now the rain has rotted the wood, so I made a new frame and saved the wire mesh from the first gate, and fixed it on the new frame. There is a pending job I will not be doing, the last storm took apart the fence up on the meadow, yesterday at eight thirty a man arrived unannounced! That had us running about, Ziggy in the lounge, and Lola trying to get his attention; every one wants’ to makes fuss of Lola. He didn’t stay long, a few measurements and he knew we needed five new panels and posts, he has them in stock if the agents get into gear; with the resent storms fence panels are in demand. I believe our agents have over a hundred properties in need of replacement fencing, so if they linger we could be waiting for new stock!
The damaged rail-track at Dawlish is unlikely to open before mid April, so until then there will a bus serves between Plymouth and Exeter, for now I don’t have a date for my next trip.
