so while in amsterdam we watched a vet show dr. pol. and i didn’t know untill [sorry this is TMI] that the cow birth thing was a real thing. see on the show ‘the ranch’ they um. the one guy when the cow couldn’t give birth naturally they. pulled the calf out. but no that’s a real thing people do. the vet guy did that in the dr. pol vet show.
oh yeah so in amsterdam. they have. homeless people but they’re not like. out in the streets like they are here [well. in denver. downtown] or london. no the homeless people they just. like live in shelters. yeah cause i asked one guy how it worked.
um we watched a tv show on art. in the city.
oh in the water closets [it’s an old fashioned european term for ‘bathroom’] they have these little. hygiene bag dispensers. yeah i thought that was cool. We don’t have those here. oh the other thing they do there is. in eateries they bring a pitcher of water to the table so that the customers. can re-fill their own water to the amount they want.
They actually use the term ‘wardrobe’ correctly. as in. armoire. as in big wooden furniture piece. narnia. [cause. in narnia. they go through the wardrobe.]. yeah in the second hotel we stayed at over there. in the bathroom there was a sign that read ‘hair dryer is in the wardrobe’. they meant closet. i don’t like. when people say wardrobe and they mean clothes although maybe that’s more of an american thing.
oh yeah i mentioned my book. er that i’d forgotten to take it out of my purse on our first day rather when we arrived at the hotel rm. well the book. is ‘the da vinci code’. it’s funny. intriguing. interesting.
Oh the other thing. about amsterdam is that at the museums they don’t do bag checks whereas in london at the public museums which are free. they do.
so over there. i=If someone wants to get sweets from the store. the store the store the grocery store. oh no they don’t sell sweets in the store. no they’re sold in like. a bakery not in a certain section in the store.
also they don’t have liquor stores in europe whereas that’s a thing here. they have a wine section in. the store but what if someone wants other liquor? like whiskey? or rum? where do yall get it? no i’m asking. where.
omygod. so we watched that michael douglas ‘the game’. it’s so good. it’s psychological.
so in amsterdam as well as in. london all the street signs are on the bldgs. not. out in the open on posts.
also. People don’t talk to each other there it’s so nice. and they don’t have customer service desks in the store. or um store directories.
oh yeah so at. the seafood place we ate. in i had roasted potatos. No uh. one of the customers had brought a dog. nice dog good dog.
Over there the store clerks and such say ‘have a nice day’ but for some reason. that doesn’t bother me. and here. it does.
and no one seems to be in a hurry. and ‘everyone’ bikes.
oh yeah so back in the ‘30’s. it was a crime for women to wear pants. no an actual. crime. yeah cause they mentioned that on this thing i watched on the plane. about kate hepburn and her influence on fashion.
yeah another thing there. is um. they don’t have the giant gaps in between the walls of the stalls in the public restrooms. which i really like cause my brain as i’ve mentioned cannot process movement that well. and so sometimes. when i’m out walking i have to stop. and let the other people go. and it’s not cause i’m being polite. the movement thing is why i don’t like crossing the st. w/ random people.
they don’t children outside the store selling things. and the few children we did see were v. well behaved.
they also don’t have the sample people in europe. in the stores. or the click list thingy.
