California Left Me Unexperienced With Weather in 2014

I have no idea how I am going to make it through the night! Atlanta is about to get hit with yet another storm, and this time its supposed to be ice and not snow which I am being told is worse? I really am just completely out of my element and have no idea what to expect. We have food and water and candles and such in case electricity goes out, but I am completely freaked out by the news saying it could be days without it if it does go out. The longest power outage I experience in California was 3 hours and it was in the middle of Summer because too much AC use was going on. It definitely wasn't in freezing temps with ice an inch thick on the ground. My anxiety is totally crazy right now and I just don't know how to cope. I have very little hope that I will sleep tonight.
I have been doing laundry since 7 this morning to try and get everything done before the electricity goes out. I am about to put in load number 8 and I should really do one more after that because I don't have any clean jeans.
My family is supposed to land tomorrow morning. I am holding out hope just because the airport itself is saying that they will be open and fully functioning and the airline they are traveling with has not said anything about canceling the flights yet. The biggest dilemma will likely be that if they are able to land, will we even be able to get to them? We have a plan for them to take the train to us which will get them about halfway to our place, and then Scott will go get them from that point in his dad's 4 wheel drive truck.
Aaaahhhh!!!!! There is just too much hanging in the air and I am way too unfamiliar to properly deal with it.
Salem was able to get a week off out of this storm. She was already scheduled to have Friday and Monday off, and in addition today, she is now off Wednesday and Thursday. It's kind of nice though because she has a project due next Tuesday and it will give us a good amount of time to work on it. And I'll know that she did it well and we did not rush through anything.
Scott is off tomorrow as well. He took Thursday afternoon off and all of Friday in order to use his PTO that would be expiring at the end of his employment instead of just losing it. So if work calls and says not to come in Thursday, or at least a late start, he basically got a week off too before starting his new job. I should be able to work Friday which is good since it doesn't look like I will be able to get into work tomorrow or Thursday.
Alright, time for more laundry.

Most of the time the news just likes to scare people into thinking the power is going to go out. I have lived in the northeast all of my life and they are almost always never right when it comes to predicting power outages. It's those ones that hit you out of the blue that no one predicts is when it usually happens. The longest we ever lost power was for a week but it was a huge ice storm. I doubt you will get anything like that. Just try to keep thinking positive! You'll be seeing your family before you know it.

Hoping you guys don't have a power outage. That would be horrible.

I hope your electricity stays on. We had our power go out here for a week because of hurricane sandy. We had candles and food and lots of blankets to stay warm.
This weather sure is different from Southern California. What freaks me out is the tornado stuff. I can deal with earthquakes but nope I dont do tornados. Stay safe and warm over there;)

Yeah... when you aren't used to snow- the experience can be unpleasant. Even when you are used to snow- there is absolutely a point (I've reached it) where you don't want to see it ANYMORE. I hope your family lands safely and you have a great weekend.

I couldn't handle snow and ice either. I hope you all stay safe and warm and that it isn't too bad.

Ugghhh, I can't believe I missed this, I would have had some encouraging words. I apparently hadn't properly added you to the friend list. I've seen on Facebook that you're alive, at least =)
