Why the downer people? Reviewers of the world, were you all annoyed and tetchy at the screening? Were we watching the same film?

SALSA!!!

Nick frost of spaced, Paul, hot fuzz, Shaun of the dead and worlds end, steps up to star in the "strictly come dancing" inspired Rom-com danceathon. With the association of long term producer Nira park, the film takes many of the tropes that have filled the Frost/pegg films and spins them in a completely different direction. This time the focus is on Frost. Although Pegg does pop up for a couple of seconds in a Ford Mondeo inspired cameo.

This causes a few jarring moments when you think that the eponymous north London ginger man might pop up, but instead you are left hanging.. Just for a second.. Until either Frost or one of the other cast members sweeps up the line or the comedy moment.

The montages and the flash back narration especially. They reek of Pegg/frost wright/Nira and you can imagine Pegg reading the same lines. Showing how interchangeable the two have become.

In another way it was nice being back in the real world. The plot is tame, the scenery is London based, their is a bit of Camden, CoCo is the setting for the final dance off. In some ways it feels like an extended mid season episode of SPACED. Not a bad thing in my opinion

Overall it is a feel good movie with an underdog story at its heart, a large fat salsa dancing underdog at that. And you know what? That brings out a lot of warm and fuzzy feelings in this reviewer.

It is not 93 minutes of fried gold, but many a bronze medal can be lightly grilled and still enjoyed.
