strictly business in poetry

the generationally wealthy are the
dumbest people in the world because
there is no penalty upon them for
being crushingly cruelly ignorant
their actions bear no consequence
on them so knowing how anything
works has little marginal value
in their wee gilded little lives

stupidity can find knowledge and
cruelty can find change of heart
because denial isn’t strength and
cruelty isn’t strength either, no
compassion is the only strength
worth one-half a tinker’s damn and
love is compassion’s lone herald but

willful ignorance protects itself
from ever changing by its very nature
a fetid ouroboros of failure forever
feeding its shit back into itself
a children’s fingertrap of straw
locking itself all the further in
the more its arms struggle against
ignorance begets ignorance but
love begets even more love yet
the choice is yours, just yours

but of course, love does not conquer all
love knows better than that and love is
wiser than that, love is better than that
love knows that conquering is the fantasy
of children and the reality of monsters
love gives without asking back
love shares without qualification
love obliterates conquest
love is wiser than the stars but
it doesn’t conquer all
it knows that conquering is bullshit
bullshit and childish cruelty
love just loves more instead

humanity is your business
love is your business
and business in the end
can go fuck itself sidewise
