fishtail in poetry

if there's anything this winter-driving teaches you
it's that you cannot let
yourself overcorrect

if you start to wobble
and you crank the wheel
or slam the brakes
you'll only make it worse
you're only gonna fishtail you're only gonna spin out
hit the rails
at best bust your car up
at worst your face
or more

and it's not just cars
it's possible to overcorrect
in life

you take a couple bumps
like I did
and you slam on the brakes
and beat your self up
against the side rails
of being alive
like I did
you're gonna only blow up
and be skid-out road kill
like I did

and that's where I fucked up
you can't do that
you can't
you can't overcorrect on the road
you can't overcorrect in life
don't beat yourself up
slow down a little bit
let the assholes with their brights on pass
we all wobble a little
don't overcorrect

you really only screw up
when you take it all too hard
when you take it all to heart
forgive yourself a little
and roll on
