I felt weird not writing yesterday :P

We went to see Brandi Carlile at the State Theatre yesterday and it was SO GOOD.

But I think I say that about most of the concerts I go to :P

The Secret Sisters opened and I enjoyed them a lot. Dark songs with good harmony? Count me in! Also, very cute onstage banter.

Here’s the set list from Brandi Carlile:
1. String Trio Intro Medley
2. Every Time I Hear That Song
3. Raise Hell
4. Harder to Forgive
5. The Eye
6. River (Joni Mitchell cover)
7. The Mother
8. The Joke
9. Mainstream Kid
10. The Heartache Can Wait
11. Sugartooth
12. Mississippi (The Secret Sisters cover, with The Secret Sisters)
13. Do Right Woman, Do Right Man (Aretha Franklin cover)
14. Nothing Compares 2 U (Prince cover)
15. The Story
16. Whatever You Do
17. Party of One
Encore:
18. Cannonball (performed from a box in the balcony)
19. Hold Out Your Hand
20. O Holy Night
21. Amazing Grace

Her voice has amazing range. She and the twins have breathtaking harmonies. Everyone onstage seemed so happy and grateful to be there. So many rowdy, dance-able songs and strong, long-held notes.

I did not weep throughout the concert too! So many Brandi Carlile songs make me burst into tears. It’s not a content thing-I am not a lyrics person at all and rarely know what a song is about in the slightest. One of the first times I heard The Things I Regret I started blubbering like a baby and was like “Why is is my body making me do this????” It was very confusing. I think, in part, it’s because something in her songwriting and singing convey such full, rich, raw emotion.

Anyway, I only teared up for like half the songs and was fine as long as I didn’t try to sing along :P

Would definitely recommend trying to go see her if you like her music at all and enjoy going to concerts. Amazing performance with lots of great, varied music.
