NoJoMo 17 Prompt 1: You are an artist. Which arena brings out a passionate curiosity? If you already have a life in the arts, what do you do and how did you enter that world?

NoJoMo 17 Answer 1: Obviously, I’d have to say theater. Musical theater if I could get my voice and body back to how it once was. For all of the reasons my wife and many of my friends hate musical theater, actually. SO often in my life I heard people say, “It is so unrealistic to see people just break out into song and dance and choreography. Totally ruins the whole movie experience, so I hate musicals.” Uhm… darlings? That was me. And yes, I know that my penchant for song and dance did NOT help to dissuade those who were certain I was gay. But honestly… if you’ve never been so overwhelmed with emotion that you could just about burst.... I mean… other people DO feel that way, right? For me… it would be a song… dance… action. In our Boys and Men we say “Don’t feel and if you are going to express yourself physically, it must be through violence.” But what if we said, “Express yourself physically through dance!!”

I remember as a kid… OFTEN.. I would be walking home alone feeling sad. And I’d start singing to myself a song that just came to me… and then if I wanted to feel better, I’d add a dance step or two… then I’d be doing a whole thing before I knew it. If I could get good enough to do Musical Theater again.... boy that would be great.

NoJoMo 17 Prompt 2: The qualities that make a close friend are…

NoJoMo 17 Answer 2: This is one of the rare things that my Wife and I do have going for us. We’re fantastic friends. Of course… being fantastic friends is also our problem as there’s just… not much beyond that it seems. But what makes us excellent friends? I like to think it comes down to things like “shared unique language” and “considerable shared experiences” and that sort of thing. Because really… we have our own bloody language. I can simply say “Garb garblegarb garb” and she knows exactly what I’m doing. So… that certainly goes to making a close friend.
