NoJoMo 15 in Book Five: Working Through the Maze 2018

NoJoMo 15 Prompt 1: You win an award. What would it be and how would your acceptance speech go?

NoJoMo 15 Answer 1: The award would be for “Public Service in a Time of Crisis” and I would thank family, friends, my faith, and then give a speech about how it is easy to think 1 person doesn’t matter, 1 person can’t do much. But just like with Herd Immunity, the more you focus on 1 person, the less you see the power of people. True, maybe 1 person pushing forward doesn’t do much. But if that person inspires another? And they inspire more? Even if you believe that one person can’t do anything, that can’t be an excuse for you not to do your best. By doing your best, by doing all you can to do the right thing, you may inspire others… you may be an example to others. And that can certainly change the world.

NoJoMo 15 Prompt 2: In 5 years, I will be… In 10 years, I will be…

NoJoMo 15 Answer 2: In five years, I will be 39. hopefully, still married and successfully still at my job. In 10 years, I will be 44. hopefully still married and successfully still at my job. And hopefully… by one of those two… my house will be set up, situated, and the way I want it. lol

In totally unrelated news… I’m struggling with something because it has become increasingly problematic.
What do you do when you are related to a Trumpian White Power Men’s Rights Activist? No, those aren’t assumed titles. He supports Trump and daily shares a re-affirmation that Trump is the savior this country needs. He is constantly discussing how “rag heads” are all terrorists and “spics” should be shot on sight. His favorite jokes are “What do you tell a woman on the street? GET BACK IN THE KITCHEN, COW!” and “What do you tell a woman with two black eyes? Get on your knees!” Seriously… a bad person through and through. He wants guns to literally “fill the streets of America” because “more guns means more people that can keep folks safe.” Not realizing the painful and dangerous logical fallacy all over that statement. He wants the border to be (kid you not) militarized because he doesn’t see how “protecting this country should be considered a bad thing” not realizing that such a move would patently make America less safe. He thinks that trading with “foreign powers should stop until every American has a job. You don’t want a job, get your ass arrested.” He thinks that all foreign aid and foreign diplomacy should “be conducted on American soil. They need us, they come to us. America doesn’t need them, so we aren’t going to anybody with palms open!”
And he is a father and alleged adult with voting abilities. Family looks out for family. He is making our entire family look bad (and if he had my last name, I’d already have taken aggressive active steps to do something.) I know the smart move would be to ignore it… but ignoring this kind of hatred and active, obsessive intentional ignorance is how our country GOT TO THIS POINT IN THE FIRST PLACE! How do we approach this? How do we fix this? How do we take people who think “Trump is right, the news is fake, America is the only country that matters” and help them get to a point where they can say, “Facts are right, bias is opinion, America is a wonderful country that can do more to be better”? BAH. Frustrating shit.
