Write about something that gives you the feeling of success.
I know that people can be quick and generic with this prompt and say, “Oh, my husband/kids/family”, and maybe that’s it for them. Honestly, no shade, but anyone can be married with offspring. Been there, done that, my offspring are growing up.
I am far beyond materialistic means…I owned a home for all of nine months, but I just handed it over to my siblings and mom. FUCK that. Too damn much responsibility. I don’t need the anchor.
Basically, I had the “life-long dream” of 90% of the population by the time I was 23. I was married. I had kids. I owned a Buick. I had a three-bedroom cabin. I had a full-time job with overtime that paid all the bills and allowed for travel and family stuff. That was easy.
No. What makes me feel successful is knowing that I have created a place for myself within my community without the accolades.
People NEED attention, they have no validation otherwise.
Because of my work with our Veterans, our homeless, our mental health, and preemies, I have been nominated for some awards of some sort. I decline each time. I don’t do what I do for recognition.
I have created an annual event for March for Babies. I had created events to benefit our TRUE homeless shelter. We have another, but it’s all religious and doesn’t truly serve the community. But, whatever. However someone can get a warm bed for the night.
I have participated in events that I didn’t set up.
I succeed in helping others up and helping them move forward.
