There is about an hour left of work today and I am trying to remind myself that days like today are good and important as offsets to days like Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. I shouldn’t be upset with myself if I didn’t cram every hour of my day with work work work. I spoke with officers concerned over firearms, I spoke with a victim about her case, and I was thanked by a victim for her case. The fact that those items are your only items for the day need not feel like a waste.
I’ve been thinking about the house again. No word negative or positive… I assume we’re on track… and again, I’m not worried about the finances (seriously, if we liquidated everything our monthly mortgage costs would be $350. We aren’t going to liquidate everything. But still… our mortgage will be around 13% of my income… so not bad at all.
But I keep thinking about furniture. About what the “vision” of that space looks like. About the expense in money and expense in arguing about how things are going to look. I don’t have a “perfect vision” for the spaces but I do have ideas. Like… I’d love a pool table in the basement… to make the basement’s wet bar area a nice “dorm kitchen” set up for snacks and drinks. Have a small table in that back corner to just sit and hang and sip. Couches and chairs and a big TV along the wall for video games and movie nights… maybe a surround sound system of some kind. Then in the “den” area upstairs, just have a few chairs set up, maybe a tv, some side tables… a place to relax and chat… like a “cocktail” area since it is next to the Dining Room and Kitchen. Only other room I even have ideas about is the All Season Porch. Finally a way to use the outdoor furniture we have year round. That will be another nice area for talking, just sitting and being warm enough/cool enough but still surrounded by either the snow or sunny days. There is a lot of space with that house. And Wife and I presently do have a lot of subpar and shitty furniture and art. For our stress levels, our marriage, and our pocketbook… no massive, sudden, swift changes to things. But I do hope it doesn’t take too long to get the place to where we want it.
Then again.... carts, horses, order of operations.
First: Marriage Counseling Tomorrow
Then: Getting/Taking official ownership of the house
THEN I can worry about furniture and design decisions.
