you did the cool drugs ironically
so you could go die off iconically
but they could not even kill you
to your depths of disappointment
turns out that all your songs of sob
still didn’t count as a full-time job
you didn’t pay for your own mythology
so there’s no collecting unemployment
you say “man, I could have been a martyr”
“that was the plan had I just been smarter”
“a pedestal up high without a need to try”
“an empty vessel fulfilling in enjoyment”
you did the math, you took the easy path
a road most traveled just divided by half
you thought the short cut was just a laugh
but between the moon and New York City
all you could hit was stone-cold pavement
to only your own rock-stupid amazement
