In Praise of Open Toed Shoes in Everyday Ramblings

We had such a beautiful mild day today it was a joy, a cool morning and a warm sunny afternoon. Not hot but comfortable sandal weather.

And boy am I glad it is sandal weather because on Wednesday for the first time in 10 months I had no students show up for class and I was a little distracted and thoughtful when I got home and getting into my pajama bottoms in my bedroom I got all tangled up, fell over onto the floor and did some damage to my second toe.

I don’t think it is broken; it is definitely getting better and looks worse than it feels. Last night I skipped my own yoga class and stayed home and kept it quiet and elevated but today I taught my regular class and went for a modest walk.

As Mrs. Sherlock and I are not hiking tomorrow, (I am walking over to her place for lunch and a movie with her and Mr. Sherlock in the afternoon), I am going to go to the early class instead.

We may walk Sunday; it depends on her schedule.

I have my cardiac stress test scheduled for a week from today. At least I can be active before that even though they don’t want me to have any caffeine for 24 hours before. I’ll try to cut down on my consumption before then but I will still have the headache.

I was excited about the Sports Performance test because I was looking for answers. It has been a bit of a challenge to accept this week that I don’t have any answers. This next test is just going to be something I need to get through to rule out any concerns.

Noko has a Princess moment.

Diego is snoring. It is funny because his ears are wide awake and on alert as he is expecting me to get up shortly and give him his evening snack.

One of our two top department managers at work, who hasn’t a clue what we do, has just committed us at a very high level to take on a whole new project with no new resources.

It has to do with this center they are building to house families and patients coming from out of the area (more than 30 miles) when they are here for treatment. They want to charge a fee for the adults that are staying there as support for (or as) adult patients. The parents of kids in the hospital get to stay for free, but most parents stay with their kids anyway. I guess this gives them options.

We are like…we don’t want to charge these people!

The current person I report to does not have any power in this arena. This all came from way up the food chain. Charging families dealing with an illness just looks bad. A social worker has to approve the stay anyway.

The news this week is just so disturbing. I don’t know what to make of it all but I feel like I want to and need to do something. Take some sort of action to make things better in some small way.

But first I need to figure out how to remain upright when putting on my pajama bottoms.

And get Diego his snack.
