We were away over the weekend taking the opportunity to see eldest grandson play some representative rugby - and meet up with our son and the rest of the family. Neither of our sons ever played the sport at school - and we thanked God for that since it can be a dangerous game. However, our grandson has taken to it well - and is also a big lad - and fast - so he is on the wing - and playing for an under-18 team from all over the region.
The squad is away for a full week having three games - we saw one - and training - getting advice - on drugs, socia; media etc - all the things which are part of sport these days.
In the middle of all this he got his GCE results - and did pretty well - passed them all - which is crucial, especially maths - and did really well and a few. So he can go on to another college - and that specialises in rugby - so he will be doing a lot of sport as well as his A levels. A whole new world opens up. Just hope he manages to keep away from the injuries!
And on another note! We were at a concert where we heard someone playing the mandolin, and talking about the instrument - remembered we have a mandolin at home which must have come from my parents - it sits out on display and looks good - so I asked the musician about it - I mean - is is worth money? - and he said send him a picture by email.

It looks like it was made in the 1920s or 1930s in Naples by a reputable maker - but there were lots of makers then - but it is in good condition - and it would be great to get some kind of valuation. We have so much stuff that will be thrown away when we go - so best to sort something out now.
And autumn weather has come in - C19 at the beginning of the week - C9 degrees now!!
And don’t forget - the centenary of Leonard Bernstein tomorrow - and ‘On the Town’ live from the Proms on tv - that really is something to look forward to!
