We checked out of the motel in Thousand Oaks/Newbury at 10am. A pleasant four hour drive brought us to the next motel in Morro Bay. Emma Pennyworth (the GPS) only got lost once, in Lompoc. We were trying to do Highway 1 vs. Highway 101 as much as possible.
The motel had a parking garage underneath and handicapped parking right by the lobby door. An elevator to the second floor and a short hallway walk brought us to the room. We took one look at the room and the view of the bay and the ocean beyond from the balcony and decided we may need another night. Down at the desk on the way to dinner we asked about room availability for another night. She said there were twenty-two rooms available. We said we were going out to dinner and would let her know when we returned. We drove one block down the hill to the waterfront and found a restaurant. I had fish and chips. Mom had shrimp and chips. It was our most expensive meal yet, but well worth it. Back at the motel we rented a second night. All in all a good day.
The next day we walked back and forth along the harbor, perusing the little shops.
Later we drove out to the oceanside beach out by the rock. Surfers. I’d like to learn how to surf. I’m not a very good swimmer though. I’d be the only dumbass out there wearing a lifejacket.
In the evening we went to a little BBQ place I’d found earlier in the day while walking to an ATM. A huge plate. It was one order- “2 meats, 2 sides” We chose ribs and tri-tip and Mom got the cornbread and I got the baked beans. Delicious! We ate it all.
So yeah, two nights with a full day between to rest and walk about was a good choice.
In the morning we were packed up, checked out and on the road by 9am.
