It is pretty uneventful, after leaving Baker City. The Oregon countryside, farms and ranches, and towns, that are known and unknown. Two hours, or so, have passed and we find ourselves
crossing over the Columbia River and take the massive bridge over. The river separates the states of Oregon and Washington.

I-82 comes in to Umatilla,OR, or should I say by-passes. You can see the expanse of the dam of to the right. Over the bridge spanning the Columbia River, and the same Columbia River we will ferry across in Canada. This southernmost part, through a lock at the dam, is navigable up and into Walla Walla and Pasco WA.

I wished we could have spent some time at the dam, but pressed for time, to get to Couer ‘d Alene. Coming into Pasco I-82 turns into State Highway 395 till we reach I-90. Rolling hills and we are paralleling the former NP, now BNSF mainline between Pasco and Spokane,WA. This is mostly the Lakeside Sub, if it is still called that, to Lakeside Jct. They will meet another BNSF mainline and take that into Spokane. We met a DP grain train, southbound running 2X2 about 25 miles north of Pasco.
The day is quickly passing, and we are late afternoon into Spokane, about 300 pm Pacific time. We will be back into the Mountain time zone, around Post Falls, ID, near the state line.
A check in at our next lodging spot, for the night. Find a place to eat, and in the morning we will head for Canada and Revelstoke, British Columbia.
