My first dirt storm! in A small but passable life.

We found the dermatologist office in a strip mall. Not next to the place we were told, but behind it. And that required driving back out at the light and then back in at the next light.

I went in to St. Vincent’s thrift store for a look around. Didn’t see anything new. I went to Dollar Tree next door and bought two pair of readers (+2.50), one pair being sun readers. I never tried the sun readers before. I’ll give it a go.

And Thursday was also the day for a massive dust storm. Howling wind and dirt. You couldn’t even see the mountain. Instead of blue sky it was an orange-ish brown. Crazy.

So, it was back home to my chair and my book.

Yesterday the wind continued to blow, but without the dirt. I spent the day in my chair.

And today the wind calmed and the sun was out. I finished reading “Enlightenment Now” by Steven Pinker by noon. After lunch I packed up and headed to the pool. I spent four hours lying poolside listening to NPR. 80 degrees. Perfect.

I did find a place just north of L.A. proper, Thousand Oaks-Newbury Park to spend night number six of the road trip. That’ll leave another night until we arrive in San Mateo. I’m thinking Morro Bay. Maybe. We could drive it in a day, but why?

And tonight I booked something special for Mom’s 81st birthday which will be our last day in San Diego. It is a two hour sailboat tour. Neither one of us has ever been on a sailboat. I’m pretty stoked.

Two more weeks and this circus will be ON THE ROAD!
