let your dim light shine
yours is yours and mine is mine
I once tried to reflect light too
but now I am an untethered moon
don’t often show my face before noon
that’s the life of an untethered moon
and it’s better to be untethered
but it’s empty and lonely
and it rarely gets warm
yeah, it’s better when untethered
when bound satellites
cannot choose their own form
let alone determine their own orbit
their own rotation’s forfeit
spun on someone else’s axis
shine by someone else’s praxis
if you even get to shine at all
shine your own though it may be dim
better than slave to someone else’s whim
better than to go down as well
when that bag of gas finally falls
yours is yours and mine is mine
let your dim light shine
