in the forest of the night in poetry

maybe raging against the dying of the light
is entirely missing the point
maybe instead sneak around in that darkness
start some new fires despite it all instead
raging is fun for a little while
it’s cathartic and
it’s fun getting other folks riled
but it doesn’t bring back the light
the only way to bring back the light
is to make even more light and then
fight like hell to preserve it
keep stoking the embers
keep finding wood to throw on the pyre
raging feels great and it makes you feel big
but in the end, it doesn’t bring back the light
only making more light
brings back the light
not rage

even though, of course
rage can be really really really really fun
