Saturday I took Mom to her appointment at Nationwide. She had her eye exam. She had ‘help’ picking out new frames. One for the bifocals and one for the trifocals. I stayed far away. But I was close enough to hear the total bill ($560?) which Mom put on the one credit card she has left. I didn’t say a word. Not one fucking word. Not my money. Not my concern.
I had a relaxing day yesterday. I did nothing but the usual.
Today was a day of errands. Mom had an appointment to have her device read. At noon. We were there a little early and on our way out by twenty after. We stopped by Goodwill and cleaned the trunk out again. Around the corner I went in to BigLots and bought that blackout curtain I’ve been thinking about. We went by Walmart and found a small Coleman cooler with wheels for the road trip. We stopped by the Hope House for women and dropped off another bag of clothes from Moms closet. The last stop was the grocery store. I managed to complete the shopping list while following Mom around in the buggy, all without loosing my cool or my mind.
Mission accomplished.
Nothing planned for tomorrow.
Wednesday she has an appointment with a dermatologist.
And then nothing until an appointment to have the car serviced at 8am Monday morning.
I did finally book the motel rooms for the first five nights of the road trip. One night at a Comfort Inn in Yuma and then four more nights at a La Quinta in Chula Vista. A little less than $500 for all five nights. After those nights we have no clue where to go next, other than north.
I’m going to start exploring Airbnb. There may be better deals there.
I’m going to try to go super minimalist on this trip. I’d like to take nothing but my good daypack. Sling it over my shoulder and say “Good enough.”
Should I take a pair of socks and boots or sneakers? May 1st will mark one year with only donning socks and boots a couple of times for a couple of hours each time. I’d like to keep the streak going. A mark of accomplishment. You know, kind of like, “I lived in a van for 5 years, 9 months and 3 days.”
98 degrees is the forecast high for the next couple of days so I’ll be sitting here in my chair with the A/C on.
Still reading the new non-fiction.
