Well, it looks as if Simple Mind has accomplished a miracle. I hope so. I also hope he stays involved and reaps or has reaped some TANGIBLE benefit from his hard work, late nights and spooky Zen-like composure in the face of a fusillade of abuse.

I’ll give the new guy a chance. Certainly, if SM picked him, we know he’s qualified. Crossing my fingers his intestinal fortitude is equal to the task. We can be a boatload of assholes. I hope he’s into that.

Most of what follows from the original post stands.

*TLDR; If a connection is important to you, maybe find a way to keep it that doesn’t rely on someone else’s blood, sweat, tears and money. *

OMG! Whatever will we do!? - Original

It’s not as if we can share our real names, emails, home addresses, Facebook profiles, LinkedIn accounts, Twitter, Instagram or Pinterest handles, YouTube channels, Medium accounts, Discus names, phone numbers or links to other blogs on literally thousands of free and paid platforms.

All these important, close “friendships” and “connections” will just go away in a puff of smoke because there is no way of keeping in touch, keeping up, staying friends or BEING a friend that doesn’t involve some level of effort outside writing about ourselves in this forum Simple Minds was kind enough to create for us and maintain for as long as he possibly could.

Not to mention the MONEY we gave him! The paid members must be really pissed off. Oh, wait…

Poor us.

Guys, it’s not 1998. If a connection is important to you, find a way to keep it. If you don’t make the effort, how important was it, really?

I’m glad Simple Mind was there when we needed him. No one else stepped up with such skill, professionalism and commitment. Because no one else cared enough. And he’s never asked for a dime. Not even now, because money won’t solve the problems he’s up against, and because that’s not what this place was ever about for him.

I hope he can find some way to save it, someone or ones who will care as much, have the technical and business savvy, the funds and the time, to save his vision, to make the long hours away from his family worth it and make this something he can always be proud of having done. I think he’s already done MORE than enough to deserve our thanks and best wishes.

It was never his responsibility to build and maintain a place for us to gather as a group. But he did, and I will always see him as a hero for that–no matter what happens next.

What are YOU going to do to keep this community you say you love? Me, I did something a long time ago to pull in the PEOPLE who became important to me over the past 20 years. I know where to find them and they know where to find me. So I’m good.

Thank you, Simple Mind. You went above and beyond the call when no one else even answered. Please don’t ever think of this as anything less than a success.
