My Own Statement in Book Five: Working Through the Maze 2018

So… I need to be a bit selfish with this space for a minute.

My Wife is absolutely panicking. Breaking down.

Chinese Boss is frustrating me to no end. The Suspension case she’s been up my ass about all week? She sent me an e-mail stating “His suspension is ‘failure to comply with citation on X date’ please discover what citation that is.” I’m “doing my job” and covering EVERY POSSIBLE corner on this because she’s pissing me off. But here’s the layout

Individual, we’ll call him Charlie.... Charlie did not have State Insurance on his vehicle as he had been ordered by the courts to do. He was driving anyway. He was stopped for speeding. They discovered that he did not have a valid driver’s license and that he would not have a valid driver’s license until September of 2018. So they issued him a citation for Driving Under Suspension. Because he was driving during the time where his privilege to drive had been suspended. This all happened on X date. So… according to his files… according to the files we actually have in our office… he was further suspended because he was driving under suspension. That is… how these things work. If you break the law while driving while suspended, they increase your suspension. But, as I was ordered, I will be calling the DOT to check every possibility. Which is funny. Because do you remember the last time I called the DOT? And I was on hold for an hour (which is fucking standard) and she said that she wasn’t going to pay me for being on hold? Until I made her pay me for it because being on hold was part of the job and billable hours she requested. So… despite having the information already, she wants me to call DOT because a 21 year old kid who has been in 1 severe accident (caused by him), been convicted 8 times of No Insurance, No License, or Failure to Maintain Control, and has had 2 suspensions of his license since September 2016 can’t drive.

THIS WOMAN DRIVES ME FUCKING INSANE! Apparently, if you are under the age of 25 and Chinese… she honestly doesn’t believe bad things should happen to you. The kid has a history of driving without insurance, he caused an accident, he was discovered STILL without insurance, and had his driving license suspended. He CONTINUED TO DRIVE and continued to drive over the speed limit. I did what I could on his case to get his license back. The judge disagreed. His suspension continued. Why are you making us jump through hoops, hoping to appeal this case, just to get this kid his driver’s license back?! Instead of demanding that every Chinese Young Man shouldn’t have to deal with the consequences of his actions… maybe you spend sufficient time explaining to all of your Chinese friends that (1) if you don’t have insurance, registration, or a license YOU SHOULD NOT DRIVE! and (2) if you decide to drive without insurance, registration, or a valid license THERE WILL BE CONSEQUENCES! Seriously, this is the biggest thing. Kids between the ages of 18 and 25 driving without registering their car, driving without a valid license, driving without insurance, getting into accidents.... Fuck, we even have Chinese Students that are actively trying to defraud the American Government because they don’t want to have to pay registration taxes. So what we have… are kids who come to the states and buy cars valued between $60,000 and $130,000. But they don’t register their vehicles with the state. They don’t get insurance. They drive like assholes, get into accidents, and are ordered to get their cars registered and are ordered to receive State Insurance. They don’t. They continue to drive. They continue to drive in super expensive cars, often still lacking registration. They continue to drive like assholes. SO they get pulled over and cited (again) but this time, cited for Driving Under Suspension. THEN they hire an attorney. At this point, that attorney is almost always Chinese Boss because she is the only one willing to take the case with a smile and a stern promise to “do whatever we can to get your license back.” Except… you should check their files first. And in this case? We already knew WHEN he would be eligible for his license. But she told me to call DOT to see if we could bump that time up. I did and discovered that he could get his Temporary Restricted License. So I made that happen. And she didn’t want to pay me for being on hold with the DOT to make that happen. I discussed with the prosecutor that we had gotten a temporary restricted license; would he amend the charge to something else. He agreed. I filed our paperwork. Judgment came down: SUSPENDED. Chinese Boss freaks out. But doesn’t ask me about the case until now… 76 days after we filed. I tell her what happened. She freaks out even more. Has White Boss take the case. White Boss hassles the prosecutor and tries to get him to talk to the judge for us. (Remember all of this is happening in a county that is a 95 minute drive away which most attorneys would say is too far away to take a case). Meanwhile Chinese Boss wants answers. HOW DOES THIS CHILD GET HIS LICENSE BACK?! It is going to take an appeals process he may not win. Just to start with.

I want to ask (1) WHY does this Chinese kid want to spend over $2,000 on a case where the punishment is license suspension and a $200 fine. (2) WHAT did he expect to happen when he was driving without insurance or a valid license? (3) HOW does Chinese Boss expect me to turn a pig’s ear into silk?

Here’s a funny. Y’know how (from a present-sense employed perspective) I was required to move things like Dr. visits, surgeries, eye appointments, and emergency car appointments around because “they couldn’t conflict with work hours”? Yeah. White Boss… had an attorney cover one of his hearings today… so he could get a HAIRCUT! Really? I’m so glad you bitched me out for leaving an hour early for an eye appointment while I have GLAUCOMA. I’m so glad you decided to make it a big deal that I was off on a Friday for BACK SURGERY! I’m glad you sent me an e-mail telling me to move my EMERGENCY car appointment.

Just got off the phone with DOT. The dude? The dude Chinese Boss has been freaking out about all week? According to the DOT, if he just paid his fucking parking ticket, he wouldn’t be suspended! Are you? Did you? ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?! This kid needs to simply pay a speeding ticket and none of this would have been necessary? AND THE TICKET IS FOR LESS THAN $200?! How in the fuck…?! Seriously, woman! He pays. A ticket. And avoids all of this. HE STILL CAN. He can still pay the parking ticket and NOT get suspended! Y’know… instead of paying for attorneys to try to appeal a case and undo work we already put in motion.

MEANWHILE my Wife is texting every few hours with “I can’t make it. I know I can’t make it through the day.” So.... yeah. Sorry Chinese Boss if I seem a little less enthusiastic to break my ass undoing my previous work so a 21 year old Chinese Kid 97 miles away doesn’t have to pay a speeding ticket. Fucking perspective, woman. Damn.

Chinese Student 100 miles away. A different one than the one I’ve already been mentioning. He got arrested for Driving on a Suspended License. I had a deal worked out that, as long as he stopped driving, he’d get a full license and Case Dismissed in May! Except… he was picked up TWICE this week for Driving Under Suspension. Chinese Boss calls down to me to file appearances and start working. (1) No, I will not file appearances unless you mean for you and your husband. I’m not going to be on file for this case for less than 7 days. (2) WHAT work? I had already secured for him the best deal possible and he pissed it down the drain.
