This could have been an edit to my last entry; but I decided to simply write some quick lines here and let that be it.
An important part of being in Criminal Law is watching “Discovery Videos.” Discovery Videos is any/every security camera/police cam/dash cam video associated with a case so that any prosecution or defense points shown on video can be pinpointed, analyzed, and prepared for trial. This is an incredibly important part of Criminal Law. Jury Members love video so if you decide not to watch everything and miss an important video (that you should have used or should have prevented the other side from using) you are a shitty lawyer who is now open to an Ineffective Assistance of Counsel Ethics & Conduct Penalty.
I had a Chinese Domestic Violence Case with 6 separate CDs of evidence. That includes Police Camera, Photographs, interviews with the Victim, Perpetrator, Neighbor. Six CDs. I spent 7.7 hours going through the discovery. That is roughly 1 hour and 18 minutes per disc.
Chinese Boss sent me an e-mail this afternoon demanding an explanation for because (her exact words) “It seems like above the reasonable hours an attorney can spend on a case like this.” On a case like this. A domestic violence case that happened between two Chinese Speaking individuals on an English Speaking College Campus that involves injury, a witness, and 2 police vehicles w/4 police videos. All this coming from a woman that doesn’t know what a Preliminary Hearing is!! For. Fuck. Sake. Seriously. For. Fuck. Sake.
