Grumble grumble grumble

Woke up this morning… several times. Came in to work… totally empty office. Muse comes in shortly after and actually says, “Where is everybody?” I have no idea. I check my e-mail… look at that… two of my cases are resolved thanks to my hard work. Hooray. After Muse is on speaker phone with Chinese boss for a while (I have no idea what is going on as they are speaking exclusively Chinese), Muse tells me that our bosses aren’t sure if our parking contract is valid. So… my car… parked where I have parked for the last year… may get towed because our bosses don’t know if they’ve had the current parking contract extend or not. Grrrrrrreat.

I then look over yesterday’s bitch out work. The stuff that Chinese Boss said I should be finding except I don’t speak Chinese so the 3 hours diligently searching through English Language websites to discuss Chinese Exclusive businesses… was beat down by Chinese Boss doing 15 minutes of web searches through Chinese Language sites. So, I’m looking over the Chinese to English that Chinese boss wrote in for a legally important document.

So… it occurs to me that there are weaknesses in this model that could easily be addressed. I can’t easily and rapidly cruise Chinese Language media. She can’t write the Chinese description in a legally sufficient English manner. The obvious solution would be for her to spend 1 hour doing research, then I would spend 1 hour putting that research into the legal document. INSTEAD what we’re doing? I go searching for hours and hours for stuff that she will say is insufficient and poor. Then she’ll prove it by finding much better material much faster. THEN I’ll have to translate the Chinglesh to something that sounds legally sufficient. Because… why do something the quick and intelligent way when you can always make bad decisions instead.

(Clearly, this bothers me more than I can express. Because while she is asking me to do this the stupidest and least effective way possible… she is asking Dylan to help pack the office, she is supervising the move, and Muse is trying to do Chinese Boss and Dylan’s role. I mean… I said I’d stay on through the move because I knew they would need coverage but… damn. There is coverage and there is consistently doing things stupidly.)

And today has thoroughly proven to be shit. Medication & The Word Versus Yours Truly.

So… Wal Mart, in an effort to “pass the savings onto you” (translation: increase profits for stock holders) now requires that any full time employee of Wal Mart must use their pharmacy if they want insurance to pay for medication. So… the awesome Wal Greens extended effect, delayed release medication my body has benefited from these last 5 years is out. Now I have to use the cost-effective Wal Mart medication. So… my body and mind are having a rough go of it.

Add to that… I discovered that the boss did in fact cancel our parking contract and that my parking spot was in fact assigned to someone else. So I did immediately have to move my car. And find a more expensive parking spot. During Girls State Basketball. Not. Fun.

Oh… I’m seeing more and more people saying “When the second amendment was written it was for militia men, not the general population.” WHILE I ACKNOWLEDGE THIS WILL PISS PEOPLE OFF, lets use that same “originalist” principle to discuss other rights. When the first amendment was written it was for white, land owning men. Not the general population. One of the Constitutional Questions that comes up often is “Is there a difference when the Constitution says Citizen versus Person/Individual. The answer is YES. Because an Individual or Person was anyone in the United States.... like women or people without land. CITIZEN meant white men with land. So… if your argument is “The 2nd Amendment wasn’t written to include non-militia members” just remember that the majority of the Constitution wasn’t written to include non-white male land owners. That argument is bullshit.

If I may offer some advice? A better argument would be a comparative analysis between regulation of first amendment and second amendment principles. The Freedom of Speech is curtailed by a number of laws meant specifically to protect the American Citizen (see also: fighting words, inciting words, and threats of an immediate physical nature.) Therein lies a stronger argument that the 2nd Amendment should also be subject to similar regulations (as, in many cases, it is: see also, Domestic Violence, Mental Health, and Vision… though all of those are state-based and not federal).

Frankly… look at certain things from my perspective right now.... not even THIS firm or THESE people but on a global scale....
Iowa Judiciary? 30% budget cuts after 7 years of budget cuts already.
US Immigration Policy? Literally, the big moving target hot topic for an administration so chaotic and disorganized that over 35% of his entire staff has been fired and replaced at least once.
China Government Policy? After many years of slow build up, proving over and over to his citizens that Xie Jinping wanted to be the new Mao; he has moved to eliminate Term Limits in China thus allowing him the possibility to be President for Life. A truly Mao move.

So… I’m working in an industry that the government is trying to kill.... specializing in law that the Federal Government is constantly fucking up… serving a country that now (and more and more) represents everything in this world that I am against. Yeah. NEED. TO. GET. OUT. Get here Good Friday!

On the other side… I am happy that my presence taught this firm some shit. Because their next hire? The one they’ve already lined up to be “Clerk” until law school graduation and then hopefully convince her to stay? Chinese Foreign national… fluent in Chinese, English, and Spanish. Lived most of her life in the American South (where White Boss is from). Currently a 2L at the local law school with a high GPA. *This is who is needed here, dammit. Not because of the GPA but because of the languages. Truly seriously… if your business is predominantly Non-English speakers… you need a staff that is 90% Chinese Speaking. As it is now? 60% Chinese Speaking. After I leave? 75% Chinese speaking. After they hire the Clerk? 80% Chinese Speaking. So… getting there. Getting there.
The above picture was discovered while trying to find out information about Chinese Animation on a Chinese Website. SOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO this is why my research takes forever and is constantly stymied. (Because the research process is bullshit and ridiculous… not because I’m spending too much time looking at girls).

I am trying to do this damned research and typing… knowing in advance it will be poo pooed… and I am having a dickens of a time staying awake! Just… eyes heavy. Sleep. Sleep. Sleep.
