A few weeks ago, on facebook, I ran across a meme that I found to be offensive. It was of an Asian boy and according to the words, this boy couldn't tell the difference between the sounds of R and L. This is common among certain people who have spoken a language from the far East before English.

My response at seeing this posting was to reply: Sorry, I don't find racism funny. The person who posted it was LIVID!! He deleted me as a friend and said he'd bring the image to the local buffet to see if they thought it was funny. Well, I expect since they want his business, they'd say there was nothing offensive in the picture and the words.

I still feel I was correct in my response. I taught ESL for many years and became sensitive to bias in education... and the world. Was I too "politically correct"?
