control is an illusion
total control is anyway
maybe you have a hand on the wheel
but the road itself is always at heel
there’s always how the others feel
there’s always an element of dumb luck
there’s always a fate to leave you fucked

if you focus on meaningless minutiae
to manufacture an illusion of control
no matter how many insignificant details
you drive yourself mad to have on lock
two more rise up and punch the clock
the illusion of control is an addiction
dependence on control is our affliction
sometimes you have to just let go
I tell myself into some mirror
I say it every night, you know
let go you goddamn fool let go
and sometimes I listen
and sometimes I don’t
