history’s empires rise and fall
great queens and kings now forgotten
except their names on bathroom walls
receipts for wheat stamped into clay
all that remains for us here today
you never know what will be remembered
you never know what will be forgotten
you can just do your best and hope
that your spirit’s thought well of
when your body’s gone rotten

Randomness and Meaning are
our gods and goddesses in equal measure
being human means waltzing with them
through our time in this too short treasure
trading dance partners with them both
the two of them you swing through life
both of them as real as the other thing
as you hold them in the dark of the night
to swing whoever or whatever you may swing

Randomness and Meaning
are really all we have to guide us
but they are always both there
no absence of either I can suss
we live with both and die with both
it is never just one or the other
this life is both forever, brother
