There was much activity in Parranporth this evening, there was a 7.4 meter high tide and a storm wind blowing in of the sea at near forty miles per hour. I was down there really to get fish’n’chips; as it is said! On a Saturday in the winter it is possible to park on the street, but not this Saturday, the ‘Beach Road’ was already closed and water was coming out of the drains; the chip shop we like is on the ‘Beach Road’ I had to park in the car park behind the main street, as well as Perranporth’s streets being unusually busy the car park was near full! It felt like Bonfire night despite the rain and wind, the elements that usually pushes that festive night to another finer night; all around people were heading towards the beach. I took the short cut to the seafront car park, standing near the green I could see I wasn’t going to walk through the car park tonight! There were a few cars still there, and there were the Police and Fire Brigade, managing rather than controlling! Below the green the stream that runs down Perrancoombe is coursed through Peranporth and passed the Green to flow over the beach to the sea, but tonight the sea was forcing it was up the stream.
Part of the path where it was low the water war braking out, I crossed the back bridge to look across the car park, people in wellingtons waiting to see natures show of strength, my shoes were not in any way waterproof, Fire Men were walking across the car park and taking care to step over the large hoses from the pumps, there are a few building along the Beach Road which will need pumping out before this night is over.
I took the longer way back through Perranporth, and much the dryer to get to Beach Road, I wondered if I would retune home with out our fish’n’chips tea. All along this back street the sea was forcing it’s way up the stream, where it met a bridge it took timing to avoid a socking.
I walked passed the chip shop, noting it was open, I didn’t go far passed, I stood at the edge of the sea water, and at the far end I could see waves rising high in the half light beyond the street lighting, I watched one particular high wave and saw a wave advance up the Beach Road.
With my shoes in mind I steeped back briskly, that took me back to the chip shop, there the water passed contained between curbs ether side of the road! I hadn’t brought my camera bag with a rang of lenses and the fresh batteries, wanting to travel ‘lite’ I put my camera in a smaller bag, standing out side the chip shop I realized the battery was near out of power; two more exposures and packed my camera away and took out my wallet …
The real storm was out on the edge of the beach, my camera is weather proof; I’m note so sure about myself!
