Oops! Kinda fell of the PB wagon for a month.
That case of M’s I inherited that I wrote of in my last entry was just awful. Young dog with a terminal illness owned by a sweet young woman. I euthanized the dog and cried with the owner and her mother. I’m usually pretty good at keeping my composure at work but that one really got to me. Had to hide in the break room for a bit until I got in control of myself once more.
The rest of December is kind of a blur.
Aaron completed his first semester of grad school with a 4.0! I’m so proud of him. He worked super hard and I’m so glad that he did amazingly well as a result.
Aaron’s car died towards the end of the semester. Transmission. Repair was around the value of the car. Said no bueno, bye bye car. Bought my mom’s from her for the remainder of what was on her loan and she bought a new one. Fantastic deal, but definitely an expense we weren’t counting on.
Christmas was wonderful. Aaron brought me to Duluth and we met Amber and Eric up there. We went to Bentleyville, which is the most obnoxiously Christmas thing ever and I love it! It was all so perfect.
New Year’s was amazing! Rang in the new year laughing so hard I was crying. We got catered food from Broders and drank the perfect amount to be goofy and buzzed but not drunk. Aaron, Genevieve, mom and I played the Barbie Game (remake of the 60’s game. So hilariously dated) and Cards Against Humanity. It was all perfect :)
My pregnant coworker, H, was induced today. Haven’t heard yet if she’s given birth. And because we must always have someone pregnant at work, B, one of the technicians, told me today that she’s pregnant. So many babies! Being extra careful with my birth control because there has to be something in the water :P
We’ll have a 4th year veterinary student extern with us in a couple weeks. Initially we thought she’d be here late in the spring, so H was going to be in charge of her. Instead, she’s coming in 2 weeks so it was between me and J being her adult. I volunteered, mostly because I didn’t think J would want to do it and I think I can be a good mentor. She’s shadowed a few times and I really like her, so I hope it goes well. I’m thinking back to my externships and trying to figure out some useful way to prepare for her time with us. I’m really hoping for a cat or dog neuter I can let her do. Maybe a dental with some simple extractions. I feel like I’ve been doing a lot of teaching lately what with our new technicians (speaking of which, we have a new one starting tomorrow) and shadows. I don’t really feel qualified but I don’t think I’ve taught anyone anything horrendously inaccurate.
I really need to write a 101 in 1001 entry as I’m woefully behind.
