The Rebel Heart Tour is being released in a few weeks, and I’m trying to think of what my absolute favorite Madonna songs are. You’ll probably notice, I’m much more into Madonna’s later stuff.

Get Together

From the first moments I heard this song, it has been my absolute favorite Madonna song. I still get goosebumps listening to the bridge. I don’t know what it is, but I just ADORE this song.

I Deserve It

Up until Get Together, I was obsessed with this song. I even learned guitar just so I could play this song and sing it to myself.

Miles Away

I know I’ve posted this song before, but I think it’s such an honest song and the sentiments are a little… difficult.

Sooner Or Later

For whatever reason, I really enjoyed Madonna’s jazz album. Most people hate it, but I happen to think that she actually folded herself convincingly into the music, which is all the more remarkable when you remember that she’s not that great of a singer. By the way, this is the song she sang at the Oscar’s when she went with Michael Jackson as her date.

Rebel Heart (Avicci version)

This was one of the demos that got leaked and when the album was prepping for release, the album version was altered to remove the dance element. I was disappointed. This is pitched up higher to avoid copyright violations, but if you find the original demo version, it’s amazing.

Gang Bang

I’m that person who absolutely adores MDNA. Everyone seems to have mixed feelings about it, but I thought it had some really good, really challenging music on it. This song is the absolute most bonkers thing she has ever recorded (and it was co-written with MIKA of all people).

Time Stood Still

This is my absolute favorite ballad she’s ever done. I don’t know how to justify it, but I just get really sad and mournful whenever I hear this. I think it’s because of the memories attached to it. I remember when it came out, I used to play it late at night when I was with Joe, and I’d lay down on his heart and play with the hair on his chest. Hmmm… I forgot about that until just now. I think it just reminds me of him.

Up Down Suite

I know, another random demo, but the Rain Tapes are filled with some amazing ideas that didn’t see the light of day or come to fruition in all the right ways. I know this is an odd one, but I used to get ready for nights at the club listening to this song.

Into The Groove

If you don’t love this song, I’m going to assume you hate life and want to ruin everyone’s fun.

Swim

I remember hearing this song in 1998 and feeling so bad for people who were hurt by the things happening in the world. Mind you, this was before Columbine, 9/11, Hurricane Katrina or any of the tragedies of recent years. This was like a beacon reminding me how to cocoon myself so that I don’t get destroyed by the sadness in the world.

Love Profusion

I just love how happy this song is.

Secret

I like how simple this song seems lyrically, but when you start to think about it, nothing truly is revealed until you place yourself into the idea of the song. “Happiness lies in your own hand” but what is the secret? Well, what do you keep hidden that you refuse to reveal to people, and is holding onto that causing you the happiness you seek? It’s kind of deceptive.
