if only we could let go of this spurious notion that
anyone has any idea what the hell they’re doing
we could make this life pretty nice together
we think if someone has money, they must know what they’re doing
we think if someone has fame, they must know what they’re doing
we think if someone has authority, they must know what they’re doing
we think if someone claims commune to the divine, they must know what they’re doing
we think if someone says they know what they’re doing, they must know what they’re doing
if they’re born into comfort
if they’re reasonably good looking
if they’re good at something that looks exciting
they must know what they’re doing
but nobody knows what they’re doing
you don’t, he doesn’t, she doesn’t
I sure as hell don’t know what I’m doing
but at least I usually admit it
if we could just let go of pretending we’re not all scared and flailing and clueless
we could just all throw in together on making this life more bearable for everyone
yet we keep hanging onto the idea that someone must know something
so that maybe we individually could actually know something
or at least pretend so well that things could get comfortable for the one person you are
but it’s never going to be real so let go
nobody has any idea about anything
let’s just work together on making this confusing lost life
a little bit better for everyone, okay?
your meaning ship is never going to come in
no one’s is
but we can make this all hurt less together
what a beautiful thing that would be
