Today was a go to the library day. Which meant up and out of bed at 8am, put on a pot of coffee, pour a cup for Mom, pour a cup for myself, go back out and change into street clothes, load up pockets of said clothes with the paraphernalia needed for a venture into the outside world, and finish that first cup of coffee.
I was at the library three minutes before the door was to open at 9am. A nice conversation with a woman also waiting about the two Stephen King books she was holding.
I turned in two novels and checked out two more .
At the grocery store I passed an old (er) guy trying to start a car with a dead battery. I went in and grabbed coffee, a gallon of milk, and I had a coupon for a free flat of water. The coupon was for a 24 bottle flat. They only had the 32 bottle flat. They gave it to me.
Back outside the guy with the dead mini-van was still there. I asked him if he’d like a jump. Mom had jumper cables in her trunk. No idea why as she’d never need them as she has AAA. Anyway, I gave the guy a jump and got him started. That was the first time I’d ever opened the hood of Mom’s car after driving it for nearly three years. First time for everything I guess.
I was home, sitting in my chair with my second cup of coffee and the first novel by 10am.
By the time my NPR show came on at 2pm I’d read through a third of the first novel.
So, I’m set for a while with a pile of three books.
Life is good.
